Small Business start - "how to" guide in easy-to-follow steps

In this small business start - "how to" guide, you will discover the way to develop your very own and potentially very profitable small business.

If you've been looking for an additional source of income for any length of time, you'll probably have been drowned in information and 'junk mail' about this and that 'business opportunity'.

I went through exactly the same process in March, 2000 when I took a voluntary severance package from a company that I had worked at for more than 20 years. I'd already spent thousands of pounds and hundreds of hours over the previous 10 years on everything from manuals on specific small business ideas to gambling systems for horse racing.

The sad fact of life is that very few of them work...and those that do will not make you any serious money. There is no silver bullet, get-rich-quick solution - only a serious business, combined with your own enthusiasm and determination to succeed.

Whether you're looking for a part-time small business or something that can easily replace your current full-time job, you're going to get all the information you need, in our small business start - "how to" guide.

And I'm assuming that you want to start as quickly, as easily and as cheaply as possible.

Right, so let's get started. You basically have two choices...
1. Sell your own products or service

2. Sell someone else's products or service
Before we look at these two options in any detail for our 'small business start - how to guide', I'd just like to spend a few minutes looking at the 'Where..' to conduct your new business as opposed to the 'What..' small business you should start. You'll see that having decided on the 'Where', the 'What' is made considerably easier to nail down.

Where should you sell your new Small Business products?

The greatest potential for selling any products or service, whether you're just starting out, or want to expand your existing business, is via the internet. Let's look at the advantages...
  • You don't need to find premises
  • You don't have to pay rent or buy business premises
  • You don't have to physically be there
  • You don't have to staff your shop or office (...whether you're actually doing any business or not)
  • You can be 'open' 24/7
  • You can take money 24/7, and do it all automatically
  • You can do it part-time and devote as many or as few hours to it as you choose
  • You can do it full-time to replace your existing job as your business grows, if and when you choose
  • The internet as a market-place will continue to grow dramatically for the foreseeable future
  • You can sell without selling face-to-face - your web site makes the sale
  • A good web site is the best advertisement for your business you can get - it's always there, always accessible, 24/7, 365 days a year.
You've probably already seen the market research that predicts a massive increase in the amount of products purchased via the internet in the future, so this is also a great time to become part of it!

It's true that a lot of people are still apprehensive about providing their credit card details over the internet. But the fact remains that, as far as I've been able to establish, there hasn't been one case of fraud via the interception of credit card details over the internet. And once someone makes a first purchase and sees how easy and quick it is, chances are, they're hooked! This has to be the future, right?

There are also some other advantages, depending on the products you sell, which we'll get to in a minute... Sure, there are also some costs - business web hosting etc. doesn't come free. But the price of everything you need to have a professional web site is a drop in the ocean compared to the costs of the 'bricks-and-mortar' way of doing business.

Right, that's covered the 'Where', now let's get back to the 'What'...

What Small Business should you start?

The short answer to this is your own 'internet business'!

This isn't just my opinion for our 'small business start - how to guide' - every recognised authority on marketing on the internet, or anywhere else, will tell you the same thing. Your own business beats working for someone else every time, and the internet has the built-in advantage that you can do everything at your own pace, as and when you have the time!

Of course, that's far too general to be of any help, so we're going to look at this in detail.

Remember your two choices:
1. Sell your own products or service

2. Sell someone else's products or service
You probably don't have (or don't think you have) your own products at the moment, so the second option will be quicker to set up and action than the first. Once the second option is up-and-running, you may want to consider getting back to developing your own products as well.

So, to reflect the order in which you'll probably want to do them, we're going to look at the second option first...

2. Sell someone else's products or service

I'll define these as products where you have no control over the retail price and therefore the profit margin.

A lot of people on the internet earn more money than most people dream about just by selling other peoples' products, so this is definitely worth doing as well as selling your own products.

Don't worry if you know nothing about the internet or web sites (other than 'surfing') - I'll tell you about a way to create your own professional, successful web site with absolutely no technical knowledge required for little more than $1 a day! More about that in just a second...

On the internet there are thousands of companies that have an affiliate, associate or 'partner' scheme. These are basically different names for the same thing - they pay you a commission (usually a percentage of the retail price) for anyone that you refer to their web site who makes a purchase.

The best subject to choose for your affiliate web site is what you already know about and (preferably) have a passion for. This can easily be your existing job or any field in which you have extensive experience, including any hobbies you may have.

The best 'vehicle' for becoming a high-earning affiliate is a product called "Site Build It!". If you can type, point and click, you can build your own great web business with absolutely no technical knowledge at all. "Site Build It!" takes care of all the technical stuff, leaving you to concentrate on your new business.

It actually does far, far more than this... And they even include a detailed step-by-step manual that tells you everything from how to decide the theme of your web site, to increasing the amount of traffic (visitors) that your web site gets (although it also gets you visitors automatically as well!).

Click here to check it out for yourself.

In fact, with "Site Build It!", although you are selling someone else's products, you actually have the best of both worlds, because you choose exactly which products and companies that you want to represent.

Now, let's get back to the first option...
